Special Education Connections & Special Needs Classifieds

We help you buy, sell, and trade used books, software, therapy equipment, instructional materials, Braille, assistive technology, augmentative communication and speech generation devices, specially designed equipment and materials, games, and any supplies or items related to special education and/or special needs. SpecialEducationConnections & SpecialNeedsCentral are an online meeting place for parents, adults, children, and professionals who are involved with special education or special needs issues. We offer a fully-automated, searchable database system. From our Search Center, you can use our flexible advanced search or search for a specific item or disability. You can also simply browse by city, state and/or disability. These flexible search options help you narrow the list so you can find the information or connection you are looking for. Text ads can be posted by you for 90 days at no cost. Photo Ads display a small preview version (thumbnail) of the item’s photo next to text, so they are easy to spot. We also invite you to visit our web-site for Interdependent Enterprises.

Who We Are
Connections Classifieds for Special Education & Special Needs is a project of Interdependent Enterprises, a non-profit dedicated to all aspects of promoting full lives for the developmentally disabled. We are committed to opening, building and expanding pathways to independent, rich, meaningful lives for developmentally disabled adults. Founded in 1998, as Child Development Center of Oregon, we began as a center-based ABA (applied behavior analysis) program for children (pre-school to grade 10) with autism, and an after-school tutoring program for students with learning differences. The school-age center is now closed and we are in the process of developing life-long programs for developmentally disabled youth and adults. Parents of children with learning challenges spend a great deal of money on therapeutic and educational materials to help their children. This portal has been created to help parents and professionals buy and sell used materials they need for their special children. It seems as though the word “special” automatically doubles or triples the price of products. There has not been an easy way for parents to buy or sell they items when they are no longer needed. There are so many difficulties in being the parent of a child with special needs, we hope this service will make it a little bit easier. This portal is created by Therese Steward, a co-founder and director of the center. She has a 20-year-old son who is blind and has autism. She has traveled the path, and knows the struggles along the way, as well as the benefits and importance of networking. Thus, we hope that parents will find specific information and make connections with other parents of children with similar issues and needs, possibly within their own community. Some of the advocacy and changes that need to be made in the systems created to serve this population, will only come about through networking and organizing. We hope you share our vision of removing barriers to full participation of the developmentally disabled into our communities and will want to participate in this noble effort, which recognizes and harnesses the interdependence of us all.
